Aleksandra KOBILJSKISenior Research Fellow (French National Research Center CNRS)

Aleksandra Kobiljski is a historian working on early Japanese industry. She currently runs J-InnovaTech, a European Research Council (ERC) funded project that looks into the structures of innovation and resilience in the strategic industries of 19th century Japan. Her research draws on human experiences in the recent past to enhance current understanding of industrial efficiency and performance metrics. Before joining CNRS, she taught history of technology at Harvard University. From 2018 to 2023, she was the director of the Japan Research Center at the School of Advanced
Studies in Social Sciences in Paris where she currently heads the Working Group on Environment, Industry and Technology.
