Born on November 10, 1973, in Bordeaux, Matthieu Bordes spent his childhood and completed all his schooling there. He attended the University of Bordeaux to earn a bachelor's degree in Cellular Biology and Plant Physiology, followed by a degree in Oenology, and finally obtained his degree in Agricultural Engineering.
From the age of 8, he participated in the grape harvest, an annual family gathering over a weekend at the end of September, where they harvested the 50 rows of vines owned by his grandfather. The family would make white and red wine for themselves and their friends.
It was likely during this time that his interest in this profession emerged. The grape harvests were moments of joy, reunions, and sharing.
Many internships in various Bordeaux estates, such as Château de Malle, Château Smith Haut Lafitte, and Cheval Blanc, allowed him to perfect his knowledge in viticulture and winemaking of Bordeaux's grand wines since 1996.
He began his career in Saint-Estèphe at Château Coutelin-Merville before taking technical responsibility for three estates: Château de Rouillac in Pessac Léognan, Château de L'Hospital in Graves, and Château Loudenne in Médoc.
He joined the team at Château Lagrange in 2006 as Deputy Director before taking over as General Manager in September 2013.
