On October 2, 2020, Shintarō Konishi, president of Konishi Sake Brewery (Itami City, Hyogo Prefecture), which produces the sake "Shirayuki'', had assumed the name of Shinuemon Konishi, which is the name of the successive heads of the company, taking over as the 15th generation. His father, the 14th Shinuemon, passed away in 2018. He has served as president since 1991.
The company was founded in 1550 (Tenbun 19). The company began selling medicine, and from the end of the 16th century to the beginning of the 17th century, made sake brewing its main business. The sake brought to Edo by ship became popular under the names "Itami Morohaku'' and "Tanjo.''
Mr. Konishi also serves as the president of the Itami Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and says, "I feel a responsibility to carry on the name established by my predecessors. I want to do my best for the development of the region.''
