Satoshi Okagawa, SMBC Senior Global Markets Analyst, has built an impressive career in foreign exchange (FX) and money markets since joining the bank field in 1991. He began at the Kamiyacho and Aoyama branches, quickly establishing his expertise in global market dynamics. By 1996, he was part of the Foreign Exchange Department in Tokyo, managing Asia Oceania currency transactions during the Asian financial crisis, which showcased his resilience in high-pressure environments.

 

From 2006 to 2010, Okagawa led the Trading Department within the Treasury Unit, sharpening his skills in FX operations and money market activities. In 2010, he became Trading Group Head in Singapore, further solidifying his reputation, and was promoted to Senior Global Markets Analyst in 2011, allowing him to focus on FX and macroeconomic analysis, particularly concerning emerging markets and interest rate movements in money markets.

Okagawa's insights into FX and money markets have been featured in major publications like Nikkei Keizai, Financial Times, and Wall Street Journal, and his expertise has been recognized through appearances on NHK broadcasts. After relocating to London in 2018, he is set to return to Tokyo in 2024, where he will continue to leverage his extensive experience in the Global Markets Solution Department, solidifying his status as a key figure in the industry.
